Nuevo Vallarta sits roughly 12-18 km north of PVR airport via Federal Highway 200 toward Nayarit, just across the Ameca River from Jalisco. Under normal conditions the drive is 20-30 minutes. Peak-hour traffic (Friday afternoons, holiday weekends) can add 15-20 minutes across this stretch, but the route is a fast divided highway most of the way.

PVR has a single main terminal with international arrivals on the ground floor. After immigration and customs, walk straight out through the exit doors — our host is waiting immediately outside the terminal holding a sign with your name and our logo. Do not engage with the timeshare and taxi representatives inside the terminal corridor. Keep walking straight out to the exterior.

Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta alone spans Grand Luxxe, Grand Bliss, Grand Mayan, and the more private Estates Vidanta, each with its own entrance and drop-off point inside the same gated complex. Riu Hotels runs two adjacent all-inclusives here, Riu Jalisco and Riu Palace Pacífico, distinguished mainly by which building fronts the beach. Within Vidanta, the four names follow a consistent tier system: Grand Mayan is the original all-suite tier facing the golf course and lagoon pools; Grand Bliss adds larger suites with closer beach access; Grand Luxxe is the top all-suite tier with private terraces and dedicated concierge service; and The Estates Vidanta are freestanding villa-style residences set apart from the main towers, usually the longest walk from the complex's shared amenities. None of that changes the transfer rate — the $58 USD price and 20-30 minute drive apply to every Vidanta tier equally — but knowing which entrance to request saves time once you land. Riu Jalisco and Riu Palace Pacífico work the same way: two separate all-inclusive hotels under Riu Hotels & Resorts, built side by side on the same beach, each with its own check-in lobby.

Nuevo Vallarta is the first Riviera Nayarit zone north of PVR after the Ameca River state line, which makes it the shortest drive of the four main Nayarit resort areas served from the airport. Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, and Punta Mita continue further up Federal Highway 200, each adding roughly 10-20 more minutes of driving as the corridor moves north toward the Punta Mita peninsula.

Each zone up that corridor has a different character once you arrive. Bucerías centers on a walkable town plaza and a long open beach with fewer resort walls. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is built around a working marina and a cluster of seafood restaurants tucked into a natural cove. Punta Mita is a gated peninsula — every property there requires advance security registration before your driver can reach the resort gate. Nuevo Vallarta, by contrast, is almost entirely resort-front; most visitors don't leave their all-inclusive grounds during the stay.
